Mount Joy

We love working with locals, and this one came through one of the best. Ali Waight from Ali Waight Interiors referred us to this project at the iconic Cora Lyn Apartments in Lorne. A little further down the coast than we typically stray from the Bellarine, but when Ali recommends a client, you know it is going to be worth the drive. We took it on without hesitation.

A full internal renovation of a one bedroom apartment with a footprint of just 45 square metres meant every inch of space had to count on this one.

The strip out was relatively straightforward, pulling the kitchen and bathroom back to bare bones ready to start fresh, uncovering a few hidden surprises in the existing frames along the way as you come to expect. Ali's tile and joinery selections throughout are exceptional. The tile choices in particular are something special, and the brass fixtures and fittings pop beautifully against the retained wall panelling and the colour palette carried throughout the home.

Underfloor heating runs through both the bathroom tiles upstairs and the engineered timber floor on the ground level. Yes, underfloor heating through a timber floor, it works brilliantly and makes this apartment genuinely comfortable through a Lorne winter in a way it never was before.

The configuration of the living and dining area on the ground floor presented a real challenge. With the lounge oriented towards the stairs and not a lot of room to play with, our Construction Manager John came up with a clever solution, a custom fabricated hinged door to the storage room under the stairs with a recessed TV mounted directly to it. Maximum storage, smart layout, and a room that actually works.

A few additions to the scope came through during the build, including vertical stainless steel rod balustrades upstairs that were a great call and feature lighting really make the place pop. Four months start to finish, keys handed over with enough time to enjoy summer at their beautiful Lorne retreat.
